Description
This module examines the critical turning points (or transitions) that young people make on their journey to adulthood, and uses these transitions to introduce students to the key themes, theories and debates in sociological research about youth.Ìý
Teaching delivery: This module is taught in 10 weekly lectures and 10 weekly seminars.ÌýÌý
Indicative Topics: In the first half of the module, we critically examine the key transitions that young people make on their way to adulthood (e.g. transitions into higher education; from education to work; moving out of home and starting new families). In the second half of the module, we focus on comparative experiences of youth transitions, including Global South theories of youth, and students’ own independent projects on how youth transitions change over time and in different contexts. As these projects are assessed, some of the lectures focus on developing the research skills that students will need to undertake these projects.Ìý
