This course addresses ideas for new business opportunities in the Life Sciences with` insight needed to turn these ideas into a business plan.Ìý
The course is designed to provide a structured approach to understanding the ways in which a discovery in bioprocessing and the life sciences is taken through to a real outcome. The students will learn about ways of evaluating potential commercial opportunities, selecting an optimal route for their commercial exploitation and constructing business plans in order to raise appropriate funding. The bioprocessing and life sciences industries have many unique features that distinguish them from other fast-growing sectors. The contents of the course are designed to achieve the aims outlined above by focusing on the factors and constraints that define successful operations in these industries. Ìý
Upon completion of the course, a student should be able to:
Level 5Ìý
- Evaluate research projects based on technical and commercial criteria
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the process of planning and applying for a research patentÌý
- IdentifyÌý the requirements for clinical trialsÌý
- Assess a manufacturing facility requirements and outsource alternatives
Level 7 UG and PGÌý
In addition to above, students should be able to:Ìý
- CarryÌý out due diligence of the technical and manufacturing aspect of an idea in biological sciencesÌý
- Ìýcreate the key requirements of a business plan that includes financial assessment.Ìý
