Professor Maria Lee and Professor Eloise Scotford publish paper on draft Environmental Bill

The working paper discusses the government’s draft Environmental Bill, and its potential implications after the UK leaves the European Union.

UCL Laws’ Professor Maria Lee and Professor Eloise Scotford have co-authored a paper entitled ‘’.

Professor Lee and Professor Scotford argue that provisions in the government’s draft Environment Bill would not maintain the legal status of environmental principles as they currently apply through EU law; and that the bill “undermines or misconstrues key features” of the principles.

The paper asserts that “significant changes need to be made to the draft Bill, so that environmental principles have a meaningful legal and systemic role” after Brexit.
