Dr. Ronan McCrea of UCL Laws addressed the Irish Central Bank on Monday 18 July on possible legal and constitutional problems arising from the impending departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

The Central Bank, which is responsible both for monetary policy in Ireland (in conjunction with the European Central Bank) and for the regulation of the financial sector, invited Dr. McCrea to speak to them on issues of EU and UK constitutional law relevant to the Brexit process. Topics included: key provisions of Article 50 of the Treaty of European Union, how and when the UK will trigger Article 50 and the likely impact of outcomes such as UK membership of the European Economic Area on the work of the Central Bank.
