Erin Thompson, MSc Dementia: Causes, Treatments, and Research
I chose to pursue my studies at 911±¬ÁÏÍø Queen Square Institute of Neurology due to its prestigious neuroscience programme, an interest that was sparked during my undergraduate studies when I had the opportunity to study abroad at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. Getting the chance to study at 911±¬ÁÏÍø again was a dream of mine that was only made possible thanks to the UCLFAA scholarship. I am truly grateful for the scholarship, which alleviated the financial burden associated with my education and enabled me to focus on developing my future career in neuroscience.
Being situated in the same building as the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where my courses take place, it is a true honour to collaborate alongside clinicians in a rapidly growing field where renowned research takes place. I have enjoyed all my courses including the interactions from both the clinicians and professors that are so willing and happy to respond to any questions.
Learning about the complexity of the brain and its many functions, I want to continue my knowledge of the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders and help those affected by them. My dissertation will allow me to work with patients experiencing different neurological disorders and see first-hand the effect they have on the brain. After completing my MSc, I plan to gain experience working in a neurology clinic and continue my path toward medical school.
