Recent research has shown that role models external to one's peer group can impact decisions and performance.
In this seminar, Rigissa examines whether exemplary same-group peers can also act as role models for other peer group members. The research looks at a setting where students are quasi-randomly assigned to top-performing students deemed by their teachers to be worthy of imitation, using novel administrative and primary data collected from a large number of high schools in Greece.
Rigissa will discuss the impact of being assigned to a same-gender (compared with an opposite-gender) peer role model on students' short- and long-term scholastic outcomes and STEM specialisation choices.
This event will be particularly useful for those interested in gender roles, gender bias, education policy and micro-economics.
Please note this is a hybrid event and can be joined either in-person or online.
