Hebrew language and Jewry past and present are essential components of our degree programmes, but we also survey political relations and conflict, and studies in both modern and ancient languages.Ìý We welcome students of all ages, ethnicity, and religion.Ìý

Departmental Scholarships and Prizes

Undergraduate Prizes

  • Samuel Bard Memorial Prize,Ìýup to £1500: Awarded to a undergraduate or postgraduate studentÌýon the recommendation of the Department.
  • Jews Commemoration Travelling Scholarship,Ìýup to £650: Awarded to a studentÌýon the recommendation of the Department.
  • Michael Goldmeier Memorial Prize,Ìý£500: Awarded toÌýa deserving student for academic achievement.
  • Harris Prize,Ìý£200: Awarded to a studentÌýon the recommendation of the Department based on academic effort and/or financial need.
  • Raphael Loewe Prize,Ìý£75: Awarded to a student on the first year on the recommendation of the Department.
  • Hashimoto Rose Prize, £75: Awarded to a studentÌýon the recommendation of the Department.

Research Degree FundingÌý

  • UCL Research Excellence ScholarshipÌýThe UCL-RES scholarshipÌýconsists of full fees (either Home or Overseas)Ìýplus a maintenance stipend during the research portion of the prorgamme which increases each year with inflation. For 2023/24, the rate is £20,622 for full-time study (rates are calculated 'pro rata' for part-time students). For 2024/25, the rate is to be confirmed. The scholarship also includes additional research costs of up to £1,200 per year for the stated duration of the research portion of theÌýprogramme.

  • Research Excellence Scholarships for Cross-disciplinary Training (One-Year)ÌýThe UCL RES for Cross-disciplinary Training are offering up to 4Ìýone-year scholarships annually available toÌýfull-time UCL MPhil/PhD students from any country wishing to spend an additional year of their MPhil/PhD in another UCL department acquiring research skills and knowledge from a different discipline, which can be applied in their normal area of research. Training should be of one year's durationÌýto permit sustained exposure to the new discipline.ÌýThe scholarships can be taken at any point during the fee-paying period of their MPhil/PhD programme.

  • Wolfson ScholarshipÌýThe intention is that Wolfson Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate the potential to make an impact on their chosen field. Wolfson Scholarships will be awarded solely on academic merit. Ideally, the successful students would aspire to an academic career. The Foundation is offering three postgraduate research awards in the humanities - these will be for three areas in history, literature and languages.ÌýCandidates should inform the DepartmentÌýthat they would like to be consideredÌý
