IHE Engagement Small Grants

The IHE Engagement Delivery Group is delighted to launch a new grant scheme.
The IHE Engagement Small Grants scheme will offer up to £500 to support 911±¬ÁÏÍø researchers carrying out public engagement activities related to healthcare engineering.Â
In addition to funding, you will also benefit from in-kind advice and support from the IHE’s Communications and Impact Manager, and the IHE Engagement Delivery Group.Â
Who can apply?Â
UCL staff and postgraduate students whose work has a connection to healthcare engineering or digital health.Â
What types of projects are we looking to support?Â
Any form of high-quality public engagement that catalyses meaningful interactions between UCL and the public. The National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement has excellent on what constitutes high-quality public engagement.Â
Activities might include (but are no means limited to):Â
- °Â´Ç°ù°ì²õ³ó´Ç±è²õÌý
- Community eventsÂ
- Creating educational materialsÂ
- School outreachÂ
- Artistic outputÂ

Examples of ways the funds can be used:Â
- Reimbursing participants for their timeÂ
- Purchasing materialsÂ
- Paying experts for their skills (e.g., facilitators, artists, event assistants)Â

- °Õ°ù²¹±¹±ð±ôÌý
The funds can be used to support existing projects/projects with other sources of funding.Â
The funds cannot be used to fund UCL staff time.Â
What do you need to demonstrate in your application?Â
- You have identified a public audience and considered their interests and requirementsÂ
- Your activity will centre on two-way knowledge exchange or co-productionÂ
- You have thought about how you will spend the fundsÂ
- You have a plan in place to evaluate your engagement activityÂ

If your application is successful, we ask that:Â
- You use the Institute of Healthcare Engineering logo when promoting your activities and/or clearly state the funding source.Â
- You create a short report, blog or video showcasing your project.Â

Send your application to healthcare-eng@ucl.ac.uk with the subject line ‘Engagement Small Grants’Â
- Describe your project plan and target audience (up 500 words)Â
- Who will be involved in the project and what is their relevant expertise? (up to 300 words)Â
- What are your objectives and how will you measure them – describe your evaluation plan (up 300 words)Â
- How will you allocate the funds? (up to 200 words)Â
Deadline Term 2: 9 February 2024, 11.59 PM.Â
The fund will reopen for applications in future terms.Â
