Supported by UCL Grand Challenges, the ‘Cultures of Decolonisation at 911±¬ÁÏÍø’ project was undertaken to map decolonisation efforts across UCL and assess the extent to which the institution’s norms and practices support decolonising research.

The of the project makes a number of observations about ways in which decolonisation themes can be more directly reflected in the institution’s EDI efforts, doctoral training, research ethical frameworks, and international collaborations. The report also raises questions on the most appropriate language for addressing decolonisation in research across different disciplinary fields.

This interactive session builds on the report and will focus on decolonisation in higher education policy. Some of the questions the discussions will address are:

What are the most appropriate ways to conceptualise decolonisation in HE policy and strategy?

How can EDI initiatives in universities be decolonising in their strategy and engagement?

How can funding and management of international research collaborations be guided by tenets and values of decolonisation?

Join us to discuss these pertinent questions with Rose Stephenson, Policy Director at the Higher Education Policy Institute; Owen Francis, Director at Higher Education and Non-profit Practice; Danielle Chavrimootoo, Director of Dorcas Inclusive Education; Dr Romina Istratii, UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the School of History, Religions and Philosophies at SOAS; Mia Liyanage, Advance Higher Education Associate and EDI manager - students at UAL, among other panellists.
