What is ideation?

Ideation is the process of coming up and developing ideas.

This hands-on workshop uses a wide range of established tools and techniques to helpyou ideate and begin to turn initial ideas into well-formed business concepts.

Whether you're just starting to explore entrepreneurship or refining an idea you already have, this workshop provides a supportive environment to brainstorm, evaluateand validate your business vision.

Who it’s for

Entrepreneurship isfor everyone.

This workshop is for students, staff and recent graduates (within 2years of graduating) who are new to entrepreneurship.

You don't need any business experience or a startup idea to attend.

What to expect

This interactive workshop will guide you through the entire ideation process.

You’ll work alongside others in small groups, using tools like mind-mapping, problem-solving frameworks, and concept testing to refine a business idea that excites you.

By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear business concept and the confidence to take the next step - joining the Explore your entrepreneurial idea programme, where you can further develop your idea into a business or social enterprise.

What you’ll learn

This workshop will cover a wide range of tools and techniques essential to developing a viable business concept, including:

  • Ideation techniques: Learn creative methods for generating business ideas such as visualisation, brainstorming, mind mapping, and design thinking.
  • Problem-solution fit: Identify impactful, real-world problems and align them with viable business solutions that have strong market potential.
  • Market research: Gain insight into researching potential markets, estimating market size, and understanding key market sizing techniques.
  • Market validation: Learn how to validate your business ideas using tools such as the “Mom test” and customer development activities to ensure your concept resonates with your target audience.
  • Product ideation and discovery: Develop innovative product ideas through peer discussions and create strategies for effective product discovery that can be integrated into the customer development process.
  • Minimum viable product (MVP) ideation canvas: Use the MVP ideation canvas to structure and assess the feasibility of your business ideas.
  • Pitch development: Craft compelling pitches to effectively communicate your business ideas to stakeholders, investors, and potential partners.

About the tutor

Dr Eloisa Angeles is an experienced venture capital professional with a deep-tech academic background and entrepreneurial experience. She's worked as an investor and consultant for technology companies across sectors such as enterprise software, digital platforms, agri-food, healthcare, and property technology.
