Overview

This hands-on workshop will guide you through the early stages of entrepreneurship, helping you ideate and begin to turn initial ideas into well-formed business concepts.

Whether you're just starting to explore entrepreneurship or refining an idea you already have, this workshop provides a supportive environment to brainstorm, evaluate, and validate your business vision.

Who it’s for

Entrepreneurship is for everyone.

This workshop is for students, staff and recent graduates (within 2 years of graduating) who are new to entrepreneurship.

You don't need any business experience or a startup idea to attend.

What to expect

This interactive workshop will guide you through the entire ideation process.

You’ll work alongside others in small groups, using tools like mind-mapping, problem-solving frameworks, and concept testing to refine a business idea that excites you.

By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear business concept and the confidence to take the next step - joining the Explore your entrepreneurial idea programme, where you can further develop your idea into a business or social enterprise.

What you’ll learn

This workshop will cover a wide range of tools and techniques essential to developing a viable business concept, including:

  • Ideation techniques: Learn creative methods for generating business ideas such as visualisation, brainstorming, mind mapping, and design thinking.
  • Problem-solution fit: Identify impactful, real-world problems and align them with viable business solutions that have strong market potential.
  • Market research: Gain insight into researching potential markets, estimating market size, and understanding key market sizing techniques.
  • Market validation: Learn how to validate your business ideas using tools such as the “Mom test” and customer development activities to ensure your concept resonates with your target audience.
  • Product ideation and discovery: Develop innovative product ideas through peer discussions and create strategies for effective product discovery that can be integrated into the customer development process.
  • Minimum viable product (MVP) ideation canvas: Use the MVP ideation canvas to structure and assess the feasibility of your business ideas.
  • Pitch development: Craft compelling pitches to effectively communicate your business ideas to stakeholders, investors, and potential partners.
