Dr Catherine Mummery on UCL’s groundbreaking research into gene silencing treatments

Dr Catherine Mummery is the head of novel therapeutics at the UCL Dementia Research Centre and is also a consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

She is leading a world-first trial involvingÌýa ‘gene silencing’ drug (BIIB080) thatÌýhas shown promise inÌýsafely and successfully lowering levels of the harmful tau protein known to cause Alzheimer's disease.

Alongside her work in finding new treatments, Dr Mummery is also working on a groundbreaking trial that would enable MRI scans to be completed in a fraction of the time they currently are. She explains the importance of this in the following video:
