NPP's Maria Fitzgerald Awarded the 2024 John J. Bonica Prize for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement

13 June 2024

Maria Fitzgerald

Many congratulations to NPP's Professor Maria Fitzgerld who has been awarded the 2024 John J. Bonica Prize for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement in the Basic Science of Pain from the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).

This prize, honouring John J. Bonica, the founder of IASP, is presented every two years to an individual who has made a major contribution to pain research or therapy.

Initiated in 1984, this prize is intended to create a tradition that instructs, inspires, and challenges clinicians and researchers to understand pain, and the suffering it produces, in the broadest ways possible. The recipient’s publications and teaching must demonstrate not only an expertise in their particular field but an interest in combining the insights from their work with knowledge and perspectives from other disciplines.

Professor Fitzgerald will give the prize lecture at the IASP meeting in Amsterdam in August.Â
