UCL Urban Laboratory and the IAS are collaborating on a joint annual theme of 'Waste' during the 2019-20 academic year. The IAS are now seeking to appoint a Junior Research Fellow to contribute to this research.

Candidates should have recently completed (within five years) a PhD in one of the subject areas of either the Faculty of Arts & Humanities or the Faculty of Social & Historical Sciences.Ìý

1.ÌýÌýÌý I am not sure if my PhD was completed recently enough to qualify for eligibility.

People with PhDs awarded in the last five years (i.e. from 2014 onwards) are eligible to apply.

2.ÌýÌý I am in the process of completing my PhD.Ìý Can I apply?

In order to be eligible, applicants will have to at least have had their viva and the doctorate agreed without or after corrections, even if the technical award has not yet officially happened, by the application deadline of 2 September.

3.ÌýÌý My PhD is in a different discipline to the department with which I wish to be affiliated.Ìý Can I apply?

Yes.

4.ÌýÌý I didn’t do my PhD at 911±¬ÁÏÍø.Ìý Can I apply?

Yes.

5.ÌýÌý Can I apply if I’ve already had a postdoc?

Yes.

7.ÌýÌý What supporting documents are necessary for the application?

8.ÌýÌý Does the word limit for the research proposal include references and bibliography?

No.

9.ÌýÌý Does the research proposal have to be a continuation of my PhD or can it be a new project?

Either.

10. Should I contact the department with which I would like to be affiliated prior to making the application?

No.

11. Can I be affiliated with multiple departments?

No.

12. Should my application contain reference letters?

No. The IAS will contact the referees of shortlisted applicants directly.

13. Should Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the application be attached together as ‘Supporting Documents’?

Yes.

14. I am a citizen of a non-EU country.Ìý Can I apply?

Yes.

15. Will the successful candidate be expected to start on 1 October 2019?

The successful candidate would ideally start as soon as possible and by the beginning of January 2020 at the latest.
