UCL UCU: Get the Vote Out meeting next Tuesday & March strikes (also, please Vote!)

1 March 2023

Calling notice for an Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 07 March, 1-2pm.

I'm voting Yes!

This message is to invite you to an Extraordinary General meeting to:

  1. پܲGetting The Vote Out (GTVO)in the university, and especially in yourDept/Division
  2. Discuss the announcedStrike Days in March(15 [budget day], 16,17, 20, 21, 22 March)

Please register in advance andput this meeting in your diary.

The re-ballot for industrial action opened on Tuesday 21stFebruary and will close at 5pm on Friday 31stѲ.

GTVO

We are at a critical point in both disputes and need to push the employers to make concrete offers, on top of agreeing to talks. Winning this re-ballot is essential to keep the pressure on, with the threat of further action (including a Marking and Assessment Boycott, that the employers really want to avoid) beyond 21stApril (the end of the current mandate).

You should have received ballot papers this week. Please post yours as soon as possible (you can send us photos for our social media!).The bigger the momentum, the sooner we can settle this dispute. We encourage all members to return a resounding YES to strike action and YES to action short of a strike in both disputes. Remember, if we do not get over 50% of members voting, everyone’s vote counts for nothing, due to anti-trade union laws.

If you have not received a ballot paper, you can. Please make sure UCU has the right postal address for a ballot paper to get to you, by.

Strike Days in March

We will also be discussing the remaining days of strike action in March. Given the employers decided to impose a pay settlement that amounts to a 15% pay cut (against inflation) in the middle of the “calm” UCU gave them for talks, we cannot show lack of resolve. So we need big picket lines and everyone out!

Come to the meeting to discuss organising for the pickets, teach outs, and other activities.

ASlido has been circulated to members to raise points/questions in advance of the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
