EU launches €7 billion research funding package
11 August 2011
A set of research funding opportunities with a total budget of €7 billion has been launched by the European Union to stimulate research across several disciplines.
The new FP7 calls are largely designed to encourage innovation and research which tackles the toughest challenges of our era, particularly climate change, energy and food security, resource-efficiency, health and ageing populations.
Funding is also available for excellent basic research. Nearly €1.6 billion is being allocated to European Research Council grants to fund both senior research leaders and early-career researchers to carry out cutting-edge research projects, both individually and in teams.
