UCL Prize Lecture in Clinical Science
21 September 2005
Dr Richard Axel, the 2004 Nobel Prize Winner in Physiology of Medicine will be visiting UCL in September to deliver the UCL Prize Lecture in Clinical Science.
Dr Axel was awarded the Nobel Prize, with his colleague Linda Buck, for his studies into how the sense of smell works. His research focuses on olfactory perception, and in particular how the sense of smell is established during development, how it may change over time, and ultimately how certain smells can elicit appropriate thoughts and behaviours.
Dr Axel has also helped to develop gene transfer techniques and has been involved in researching how the AIDS virus affects healthy cells.
The lecture will take place at 5.30pm on 26 September 2005 in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Cruciform Building, and will be followed by a champagne reception.
