'Launching Crime Science' conference
13 November 2003
UCL's Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science (JDI) hosted a major conference on new approaches to crime control in November.
Professor Gloria Laycock, Director of the JDI, said: "Crime science is a radical departure from the old ways of thinking about crime. It involves the application of rigorous scientific thinking to find practical ways of reducing crime. The techniques of the scientist using data, logic, rationality, hypothesis testing and knowledge acquisition can help us understand the crime problem, improve our ability to prevent crimes from happening and catch offenders more quickly."
