The temples found in the city were already heavily destroyed when excavations started in the 1880s. The gods worshipped in them were identified by dedication inscriptions on pot sherds. The 'Great Temenos' in the south was an Egyptian style Amun temple, built in the Thirtieth Dynasty and Ptolemaic Period.
