Description
This module encourages the development of Student Teachers as independent critical and reflective thinkers as they select an aspect of Languages teaching and learning to explore in depth. PGCE Languages Student Teachers are supported to select a relevant theme to review systematically, extensively and analytically, which will be based on personal interests and challenges arising from their own practice. They will demonstrate their understanding and analysis of how Languages are learned in immediate and wider professional contexts, in order to explore, critique and apply their chosen focus.
The module will provide a conceptual and theoretical foundation upon which Student Teachers can build their linguistic knowledge and inter-cultural competencies, and their understanding of the professional context of teaching, enabling them to continue to develop a critical and reflective approach to their practice. Throughout the module, students are encouraged to engage with recent and relevant research and scholarship in learning and teaching as they relate to the field of Languages, to analyse the values underpinning or influencing MFL pedagogic approaches, and to critically and constructively engage with wider policy contexts and initiatives, all with a view to improving practice. This practice-based enquiry will enable Student Teachers to reflect on and critically evaluate their classroom experience in relation to theoretical perspectives in the context of improving their practice.
