Description
This module will introduce how Virtual Reality (VR) can be used in surgery. The concept of VR models will be introduced, and the theoretical advantages of VR will be discussed. The use of high-definition imaging modalities such as CT and MRI in building surgical applicable VR models.
The concepts, theories and skills that will be learnt concurrently into the direct application in Surgery. Students will learn and build basic VR models for different surgical situations demonstrating how VR can be beneficial for surgeons.
An introduction to haptics and the next generation of ‘serious gaming’, which can be applied to surgical training.

- To appraise the success of VR surgical models
- To use mobile surgical applications to teach technique
