Description
This module, a core component of the MSc in Venture Capital and Private Equity with Financial Technology, equips students with advanced knowledge and skills essential for the evolving landscape of financial technology (FinTech). Focusing on DLT/Blockchain, Decentralised Finance (DeFi) and tokenisation, the course punctually explores synergies with other Emerging Technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), to redefine Venture Capital and Private Equity sectors.
The curriculumÌý will explore the evolution of Blockchain technology from its origins to present, its infrastructure and applications, empowering students to evaluate market trends and investment potential. It will also focus on the underlying principles of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), Smart Contracts and their implications for financial transactions as well as its security. Students will gain hands-on experience with Digital Assets, enabling them to leverage Smart Contracts as well as to understand the mechanics of token economies.
Special attention is given to real-world applications, ecosystems enabling growth and facilitating fundraising for e.g. Start-Ups as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the area of FinTech. Students will engage in case studies and projects that mirror current industry practices, fostering a critical understanding of both the technical and strategic aspects of FinTech in the Venture Capital and Private Equity domains.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped to assess and implement cutting-edge FinTech solutions, with a strong emphasis on strategic thinking and practical application.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Grasp the Fundamentals of Blockchain: Deep understanding of Blockchain principles and their impact in FinTech, particularly in the area of Venture Capital and Private Equity.
- Recognise the peculiarities of Smart Contracts: Comprehending the mechanics of Smart Contracts as well as its implications for FinTech.
- Analyse Tokenisation and Novel Investment Methods: Capability to analyse the effects of tokenisation and different methods of fundraising.
- Apply Analysis for Investment Opportunities: Evaluating market trends and ecosystems, as well as identifying investment potentials.
- Cultivate Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Abilities: Demonstration of innovative thinking and problem-solving in assessing the efficacy, user experience, and security of FinTech solutions.
