Description
This module provides an introduction to some of the key issues in business sustainability, considering climate change, other environmental issues, and some of the social aspects of sustainability. The aim is to introduce you to the current debates in this fast-moving area and provide them with some essential frameworks to help navigate it. The module combines academic theory with practical examples, and sector “deep dives”. Indicative issues covered are: classic views of the business case for sustainability; corporate sustainability reporting; sustainable supply chains; circularity and sustainable business models; sustainable innovation; and greenwash. The focus is qualitative: there are no quantitative calculations, and the focus is on strategic issues not finance. Guest speakers are deliberately drawn from both academia and industry. The module is designed to encourage discussion, debate, and collaborative group work. You need to be prepared for active participation and in-person classes. Assessments encourage the development of oral presentation skills and academic writing, and communication with business and academic audiences
