Neurophysiology, Perception and Computation
The NP&C Unit studies hearing at the systems level with the goal of understanding the physiological mechanisms that link sensation to perception. Our expertise spans every level of the auditory system from the cochlea through cognition. We carry out experiments involving electrophysiology, imaging, and behavior in animals and humans, and utilize computational approaches ranging from finite-element modeling to deep learning. Our work is not only focused on expanding our knowledge of hearing; we also work closely with our clinical colleagues to translate that knowledge into improved therapeutics and assistive listening technologies.
