Find Your Voice Training
This session focuses on developing the communication and presentation skills of students, with a particular focus on public groups. In line with UCL Engagement's theme ‘Find your Voice’, students will be encouraged to think about how they present their research in different contexts and how to think about the audiences they will encounter and how to tailor their approach to these audiences. The session will also cover the aims, benefits and evaluation of public speaking activities, supporting the view that these activities can create a myriad of opportunities both professionally and personally for students. During the session, students will think about their own research and collaborate to discuss audience groups and expectations of public speaking events. The tutors from UCL Engagement will highlight opportunities available across UCL to put this into practice. Students will also get insight into wider public engagement concepts and will be given guidance for continuing their journey of public engagement connected with their research.Combining interactive exercises, public speaking practice and a feedback opportunity, this session will help students to identify the benefits of public speaking and better equip them to articulate their research and understand future ways of engaging public groups.Having attended this course, students may be interested in coming on the more in depth Train and Engage course. This session can be booked as needed by getting in touch with the team - via publicengagement@ucl.ac.uk
