Grant Opportunity for all European Cancer Registries

To support quality improvement of cancer registry data feeding the European Cancer Information System

The International Benchmarking of Childhood Cancer Survival project, (BENCHISTA) is a successful research collaboration between 67 population-based cancer registries (CRs) within and outside Europe, aimed to better understanding of the reasons underlying variation in childhood cancer survival between countries and regions. Following the launching of a to Member State Authorities focused on cancer registration and the European Cancer Information System (ECIS), the BENCHISTA project encourages all cancer registries’ representatives to review this major opportunity.

The European Commission is launching a direct grant to Member State Authorities with special focus on cancer registration and the European Cancer Information System (ECIS). Under the EU4Health programme, the Commission is co-financing a project “to support quality improvement of cancer registry data feeding the European Cancer Information System”, more information in the of the European Network of Cancer Registries’ website.

The BENCHISTA project encourages all cancer registries’ representatives to review this major opportunity. We ask that you discuss with your registry director the possibility of addressing childhood cancer as a ‘use case’ for quality improvement in the work plan of the direct grant, building on BENCHISTA’s experience. Each registry will need to engage with their national competent health authority to highlight this interest, to encourage national participation once the relevant competent authority for participation in the direct grant is identified.
